About us
The Breede Centre is a skill training centre in McGregor in the Western Cape where the young children of the village up 15 years old are accommodated in the Educational Programs and the out-of-school people are trained in various skills in the Skills Development Department.
Getting involved in the early education development from early child development (2-3 years old) up to the age of 14 years old equip the child with basic life skills to become a self-confident and well-balanced adult.
Skills training enables the person who lacks basic skills to develop in personal and in a specific skill to become a well-equipped adult to earn an income or obtain a job to become self-sufficient.

The Breede Educare accommodates 2 to 5-year-old children in the mornings from Monday to Friday under the loving and expert care of qualified ECD teachers and an assistant following the Amazing Brainz curriculum.
After School Programs

After school programs include the telling and reading of stories, arts &crafts, music, playing games and sport and cycling for children from Grade 0 to Grade 6 from Monday to Friday afternoons. By positively motivate and encourage the children, they can express themselves in various ways so that they grow up to love learning and doing, with a strong self-image, with dreams for a future and the resilience to achieve.
Building Craft

The Building Craft program, a curriculum over 52 weeks, the skills of the trainees are developed in building, plastering, tiling, woodwork and basic maintenance. This full-time program also gives trainees exposure to the practical side when the Building Craft section is doing outside jobs.
HandiCraft

Various HandiCraft programs give trainees the opportunity to learn the skills of sewing, screen printing, knitting, crocheting, the spinning of wool and making of wooden toys. The programs is only 3 hours per week following a SETA aligned curriculum where they learn to make a large variety of products to sell and generate an income.
Hospitality

In the Hospitality program the trainees learn to use basic techniques in food production, costing and compiling of basic menu’s, outside catering and assisting in events. Once reaching the level of competence the trainees will receive a certificate for completed the kitchen assistant training.
Life Skills

A variety of short courses are available as part of the Life Skills programs presented at the Breede Centre.
The partnership with NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) creates a large scope of life skills such as “Who am I, Personal development plan, Understanding communication, Communicating assertively, Understanding teams, Managing money, Managing time effectively and Understanding conflict and Resolving conflict. NYDA also presents Entrepreneurial Development training: (SIYB – Start and Improve Your Business) The program offers a package of Entrepreneurship Training that responds appropriately and adequately to the business needs of Young people.

Road2Nowhere Productions

At the Breede Centre, the Road2Nowhere Productions program is providing training in photography and video skills.
This program is a Breede Centre and Goosebump Productions upliftment initiative. The program’s mentor is Mark Chipps. The aim of the program is to tell stories with photos and videos produced by the trainees on the program and to give the trainees the opportunity to secure a job in the film industry.

McGregor Fight Hunger & Crime

This program started during level 5 of lockdown in 2020 where the need of feeding the hunger and limit crime activities started in McGregor.
The McGregor Fight Hunger & Crime program is a partnership between the local Police Station, The McGregor Community Police Forum, and The Breede Centre. Feeding the hunger people escalated over the Covid-19 period and a partnership with Ilitha Labantu (an agent for the Department of Social Development) for the providing of ingredients ensures that meals are provided 5 days a week to the residents of McGregor. Special delivery on Wednesdays to the elderly and disabled people in the village is also part of the service rendered to the community of McGregor.

McGregor Young Warriors Academy

The BMX track at the Breede Centre gives the children of the village the opportunity to learn to ride a bicycle.
Fun rides hosted by the Young Warriors take the children on a route of 5km to develop their mountain bike skills and to identify potential Young Warriors The McGregor Young Warriors program has bought 680 bikes to the village making it the highest per capita of any town in SA!

The Breede Centre is the home of the McGregor Young Warriors mountain bike team under the mentorship of Max “Waxhead” Menzies. There are 8 bikers in the team who participate in the big events all over South Africa.
There is also a bike shop at the Centre where small repair and serve jobs on bicycles are done.
